Lenses

What's the difference between bifocals, trifocals, and progressives? Bifocal lenses allow you to see distance and near clearly in one lens. The top portion of the lens is for distance viewing, and the bottom portion for near.

Trifocal lenses also take into account lost intermediate vision--within three to six feet. Many jobs we do every day require us to have good vision at that range. The most common is working at our computer.

The progressive lens, are no-line bifocal. Most people today must work or live in a variable-distance environment. They need to be able to see close up (reading), at midrange (computer), and in the distance (television viewing or driving). The progressive is the best multiuse lens on the market.

Transitions

Transition lenses are lenses that turn dark in sunlight and change back to clear when they are out of the sunlight. Transition lenses are available in both brown and gray ultraviolet-blocking tints. Transitions are even available on thin (high-index) and polycarbonate lenses.

Is there really a benefit to anti-reflective lenses? The main benefit of an anti reflective lens is that it will cut out glare and make vision more comfortable in addition to improving the looks of the glasses. Any lens with good optics has an anti-reflective lens. All cameras, telescopes, microscopes, and binoculars have anti-reflective lenses.

What are computer glasses? Computer glasses are glasses that are made for viewing computer screens. These glasses are designed to allow the wearer to look at a computer on a desk without holding their head in an abnormal position. Computer glasses also come complete with anti-reflective lenses to help reduce eye fatigue.

Sunglasses

Sunlight is known to cause cataracts, macular degeneration and abnormal growths on the ocular surface. This is why all of the sunglasses dispensed in our office include 100% ultraviolet light protection. We have a wide selection of fashionable sun wear that will protect your eyes from sunlight damage.

Sunglasses block harmful ultraviolet rays. The lens of choice, however, is a polarized lens. The polarization blocks horizontal light. Most glare is light that is being reflected off a surface and is traveling horizontally into the eyes. Blocking this light reduces most glare, making viewing much easier.

Contacts

There is a large selection of Contact Lenses available that range from daily, weekly, and even yearly.

Am I a candidate for contact lenses? Chances are that the answer to this question is a resounding "yes!" With the numerous recent advances in Contact Lens technology, more and more Americans of all ages are now able to be fit with comfortable contacts which enable them to have clear vision. Today's contact lenses are also easy to care for. During your next annual exam ask the doctor if contact lenses are right for you or your child.

Are contact lenses healthy? Yes. Serious complications resulting from contact lens wear are very rare. They occur mainly because of misuse and poor habits in contact lens care. Following the wearing schedule and cleaning directions prescribed by your doctor and you will stay clear of any trouble. To prevent complications it is important to follow the "check yearly - see clearly" formula. Too busy to bother with cleaning? Ask about new daily disposable contacts.

I have astigmatism, would I see clearly in contact lenses? Yes. Most astigmatic patients can now enjoy consistently sharp vision even in disposable soft contact lenses. Even if high degrees of astigmatism prevent soft lens wear, special rigid contacts can be designed to give sharp vision.

Is it dangerous to leave contact lenses in overnight? Until recently the answer from any eye doctor would have been: "Yes!" However, with FDA approval of a dramatically different soft contact lens that may be left in the eye for up to 30 days and nights! In extensive clinical trials they were proven to be safe and effective. Ask your doctor about this lens to see if it is right for you.
